Topic : Can't Install Darkstone :[

Okay, so I followed this guide: http://blog.nosilleg.com/2011/04/setting-up-darkstone-on-windows-7-x64.html

... and got it running but couldn't install the original patches. The Fixed Patch (http://dsdb.it-taucher.at/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=138:no-cd-for-darkstone-eu-105b&catid=37:other&Itemid=75) worked though. ...

I set the compatibility mode on the EXE file to 'Windowx XP (SP3)'. Darkstone is running fine on Windows 7 (64 Bit) and surprisingly without previous graphic glitches.

I'd supply a ZIP file but currently I've only the german languages.

You're welcome Leonardo :) I'm just happy to help.

@Meanderer: Is not done yet and I haven't had time to even touch it in the last 4 years. :´( It's my wish to complete it but I need a better working process. At the time I was making things up as I went on but then university studies came up and, unfortunately, everything came to halt.

Hi Jolle: This isn't really a reply to the thread, but I wanted to say hello and see if you had finished your game. I hope you do because it looked like a winner. All the best. Regards, Meanderer (Luke)

If you wrote a state-machine and want to put it in a DSM-file you can do it in three ways.

1. You copy an existing DSM, rename it and open it in notepad. You remove all text and paste your state-machine into the document. And save, of course. :P

2. While editing your state-machine in notepad (or other text-editor) you could try to Save as... and then you use quotationmarks when you type in the file name.

"myFile.dsm" <--- Good

myfile.dsm <--- Bad. Will be saved as "myFile.dsm.txt"

3. Save the state-machine as myFile.txt and then change the file extension manually in windows. You might need to change some folder-settings to be able to change the extension.

I assume that you know that the DSM-file needs to be in the state-machine folder within the QEditor folder.

Hi Leonardo: I'm not sure what you are asking. Do you want to know how to convert a text file into a dsm file, or to create a dsm file from scratch. Regards, Meanderer

Topic : Unable to install Darkstone on Windows 7 (64bit)

Hey, I had the same problem on my new computer even though I had copied an existing installation folder from my old computer, but the game wouldn't start even though I had a no-cd patch (the no-cd patch wouldn't work in Windows 98 either). I like to use the no-cd patch because my kids have destroyed many backup cds already; I'm just glad that I had thought to make up backup cds when I did or my original would have been destroyed! Anyways searching the internet, I found this: http://isohunt.com/torrent_details/91677625/windows+7+64+bit?tab=summary It works perfectly in Windows 7!!

sorry for the double post!

Its all the quest maker's fault - I think it was Foucter? Never ever use state machines that delete important items after using them!

Yea, some old games, like darkstone, has these bugs. It has really bugged me (lol) in some situations.

You have to do something in a specific order. For example A B C D E. Then if you accidently do it A C B D E, you can NEVER move on in the game and have to start over. There are A LOT of these things in darkstone unfortunately >_>

Oh well, all games have glitches. I'm sorry I couldn't help. I just looked, and there's not much left of darkstone on the net. Couldn't find anything :/

Yep, I know the walkthrough, I just put the 'expanded' version online a few days ago from the old darkstone forum. In my opinion this may be a bug (leaving the crypt too early prevents reentering). Guess I'll just have to restart then ; - )

And I assume you didn't save the game previously in case this would happen. I found this link. A "walkthrough" to the royal crypt. I haven't been there myself, so I can't say if any of it can help, but it's worth to look at I guess.

I'm stuck in level 4 (the royal crypt). Maybe I entered the royal crypt too early. I didn't even think about the 'ragged parchment' and didn't check out the crypts to be opened with the levers. The only thing I did on the royal crypt section was summoning the guardian and nearly killing myself ; - ) I touched the telport pad and was moved to the dungeon level entrance once again.

Now the door / wall / whatever to the royal crypt cannot be entered and I don't have the key anymore (used it the first time I went in). Any suggestions?

Now I'm waiting again for a session timeout, let's wait 30 minutes... and then add this reply

Just like before it didn't work and forwarded me to the index page instead. After hitting the brwoser's back button I was able to see the original text and resubmit (with this addition).

Seems to be the session timeout. Could anybody please confirm that posting a topic is generally possible?
