Scratch what I said, I figured it out, I was directing myself in the wrong orientation by misreading the compass directions on the eyes. I cleared out the teleportal puzzle and seized the essence of fire and ringkey to the lower catacombs from the central room along with a crapton of elixirs.

you do not need to step on each square, just count the number of squares and move to the last one, and wait for the blockage to go away.

[the tatter 06-06-2014 18:16:04]:

have you stepped on the squares, in the order they are listed from each eye, that will open the next teleport?  next you "play the squares" and lock the eyes in to open the next doors.  I haven't played in a long time, so I hope this helps.

I can't seem to step on them in the order so indicated, I keep getting blocked by the torches on the central pillar of the teleportal chamber. Tried this on multiple rooms.
If you can guess at what to do next, or have a copy of the old clue/hint guide you can loan me, that would be much appreciated.

If anybody is still reading the forums; (especially Foucter!) I'm badly stuck on level 19. I've seemed to have tried everything, but cannot figure out how to progress the main quest and gain the Ringkey for Solitude. I found 4 eye sculptures in my explorations, and the inner teleportal chambers, but for the life of me cannot figure out what to do next. Any hints or help on how to go about beating level 19 will be appreciated.

Yeah, this game was something the kids and I really loved playing over and over again. I can truly say it's the first video game I've ever played. I was introduced to it by some demo cd that came with some arabic computer magazine. The whole game wasn't available where I live (Saudi Arabia) and I had to ask my dad to send it to me from Canada. I still love playing it sometimes and the levels load much faster in these newer computers. I too remember those very slow loading times for some of the player made quests especially. I'm glad I'm not the only one who so loved this game.

Well good to hear you have progressed with the quest Smile

As for me I use to love playing Darkstone on my old computers (I think it was a game that came bundled in my brothers old win 95/98 PC years and years ago and just loved it). I remember it taking round a good 5+ mins just to load a level. My favourite thing on it was grinding in the random levels and getting powerful weapons and high level characters.

I do not really play it much now but I pop onto the forum every now and then as a moderator just to check up on things.

That's ok, azzy9, yes it is lonely, and it doesn't matter that you can't help me, maybe Foucter will return and give me a hint or I might be able to figure things out on my own as the kids are gone back to school and I have plenty of time on my hands...

Which of the quests are you playing, by the way?

Or are you  a builder?

Or just passing by...

The game is very old after all so I can't really blame people that have gone...

Well I kept shooting at the flutes and must have finally shot all of them or done something right because I received a message saying that the lower levels were accessible and have progressed some more in the game.

Oops long time, and I haven't visited this page as life got in the way... Yes, I'm in Serkesh now and stuck on level 26; I've been shooting at the 'flutes' on the walls hoping something will happen and help me progress...sigh... I was rather ashamed to ask for help again as it seems I'm the only one stuck...

Thank you, all the hints were desperately needed as I hadn't made any headway since writing my last post.

With the hints you gave me, I have finally got the three rings and finished up Ormar.  I had totally forgotten about the spiked barred passage in level 4 and was running around level 22 thinking I must have missed something...LOL...I suppose the whole game will be much more fun if I replay it when I finally finish it this time.

Thanks for explaining about why the game was hanging; I could never understand the mechanics of the game properly when I was building and had just made a very very simple quest and then given up, after seeing and not understanding these problems and now my kids whom I was building for have grown up and are not interested in playing Darkstone anymore.

Sorry again for the late reply!  I tried once already, and it timed out on me, and I lost it all.  So this is take two, offline first.

Thanks Foucter!! Have I ruined the summoning forest for myself as I had already placed whatever I periodically found on the pedestals as the stuff was taking too much room in the inventory? I couldn't place anything in order anymore because of this and the only items I had left that I could follow any order with were the 'eye' and the 'silver'…

You haven’t ruined the Summoning Forest.  I did actually program for the chance that the player would put them on the pedestals as they found them.  There’s also a different graphical display than normal when the Zielna’n guardians appear; a warning that they’re much more powerful than if the objects had been placed in order.  Just be ready for a tougher fight for the Tears!

I'm only missing the 'leates' item…

Leates… royalty… speaks of the Royal Diadem.  Before Celvena left, she told about recovering a special key.  If you having done this, here’s what to do: 1) Return to the place you first met Celvena on the Ormar overland, and get the key from where she was standing.  2) Journey back to the Family Crypt on Level 4.  Remember that spike filled corridor?  3) Use the key to lower the spikes, and take the Royal Diadem from the flaming chest, and … ah… kill something.

I don't understand what 'blade' I'm supposed to 'draw'...

In your travels you should have found 2 blue bladed swords; one was used for the Shrine on Level 24, and the other is for Rasan pedestal on Level 17.

Thanks for the hint about the three rings riddle, I will try to figure it out from here and if I can't I'll let you know... as also the 'It'.

Finished the "It"; there was a problem with the game hanging 3 or 4 times, and I had to restart the game again and again but I finally finished it, I think it has to do with a virtual object or something because the game I built kept doing that on every virtual object I placed (I never did upload it for this reason) but this is only the second time this has happened with the Avenger.

Yes, there is a collision problem inherent with the game engine, which causes problems with this particular monster because of its size.  It would have been difficult for me to describe something like IT’s lair without you seeing it first, so I waited to see if you could beat it.  If you couldn’t get it to work, I could have told you exactly how, because you would know the layout of the room.

The problem occurs when the IT monster dies on top of its spawn point, which is the large hole.  This causes the machine controlling the sequence to malfunction.  By simply moving to the left or right side of the room, and using the Bend to drive IT against the far wall away from the hole, solves this problem.  But you beat it, which is something considering IT, the snakes, and ground explosions! 8)

As for the three rings riddle, I kept trying to use magic elixirs which weren't working and then I realized I would have to pay another trip to level 18 to make more potions...LOL...still trying to figure out the report though...

Similar to the Quote, try reading only the first word of every sentence…

“I was able to get to the last skeleton guardian, like you said, it's hard but the rewards are great, but I feel as if it may not have been absolutely necessary to finish the game as I already had the ringkey for level 24...”

No the Crypt of Kings wasn’t necessary, but it was more of a real place reality.  Where did they bury those other kings?  So I answered the question for myself as much as anyone else.  Because… if you think on all the custom levels you’ve seen in Avenger, I’ve always tried to make real, purposeful places.  Plus I got to use some graphics and machines that are not used anywhere else… and then there’s the gold!

The Medallion is much MUCH more helpful in level 23, but I had already spent an idle evening running around there and am using the Medallion to double check what I've missed as soon as I'm finished level 22, hopefully!.....checked the level and I think I had finished it...on to level 24 after taking precautions of returning that Medallion....

Yes, the Medallion was really for Level 23 where secret passages abound!

I think I've completed level 24 as well now; but will I not get the crystals until later? "...if at last the horn is bestowed..." leads me to believe so...  I've been playing this game on and off for months and months now, maybe even more than a year as I started it in March, 2012...

GREAT GAME!!

If you’ve defeated Death, and translated the Prophecy, learning the order to place the Horn, Stone, Dragon Scale, Ice, Fire, Diadem, Sword, Statue, Eye… and have found all those items, then you’re ready to finish Ormar and reclaim the Tears.  This final sequence was a bear… I fought and fought with it to get it right.  I have to ask, you do know the correlation between the word on each pedestal and the object to be placed on it?  I’m just going to give it to you:

“Foremost, must be balance(hadoin), between the elements of fire(sa) and ice(ris) lest chaos and darkness reign.  With the eye(tek), can one see the firey dragon(sakvun) so clearly, yet fail to discern the place of royalty(leates).  If at last, the horn(zuth) is bestowed, the blade(rasan) is drawn, and the silver(zeaa) set, will the way be closed for the Zielna'n to appear, who guard the Tears of Heaven.”

This is the master puzzle of an entire land.  Make sure you’re ready and saved, and realize that you’re efforts will… ah… not go unnoticed.

((Your mentioning "It-Who's-Name-Is-Unprounouncable" reminded me that I've encountered this before; I think about 2 years ago before I had a hard disk failure and lost that game and am now replaying it; i went through all dialog to see if I'd encountered it in this game but I haven't...I went hunting for that place, I vaguely think it was level 11 or 12...and had something to do with an eye of something and eye of something else which I have lying around in town...can you give me a hint on that, please?

If you read the "To the left of where the Sacred lies. . ." and ". . .pass thru the fiery head to your destiny or demise." together, it points you to Level 12; where the Sacred Crystal of the Lizardmen was found.  Be careful.  “It” is not too friendly!

This does sound stupid but I've also finished the three rings riddle only to not know where to find the rings, I have the 'colors' written down though; I've been playing on and off...     It does sound strange that I remember something about the unpronouncable from two years ago and can't remember about the rings...I vaguely remember that I'd decided to abandon the rings' quest but when Nectarine found the rings I felt encouraged to find them too.))

You’ve done all the work, so can at least get you going in the right direction.  Remember Level 5?  First you have a well protected by some nasty Chronoflies; then you have the inscriptions on the central pyramid, one tells about the Rings and the other, a quote, is the key to dealing with the Chronoflies, if you remember, “every other word”.

Once you’ve done that you can read the Colony Report on the bench, and look for all the “firsts” to tell you what to do next.  Yes that’s vague, but I want to give you a crack at solving it for yourself.

For the last when you’ve opened the way, remember to bring at least two bottles of each of the normal colors, and I mean ALL colors.

Wow, Foucter, you've answered all my questions, that's really encouraging. I take a break sometimes and then when I come back I find that elusive switch or that item that I looked all over the place for beforehand...well on with the game!

Spending more time in level 22, I've found 2 more secret places (one of them yielded another of those bloodstones) and have opened up that middle section of ebishom that was eluding me so far; only one more skeleton guardian left whom I can see but can't reach...FINALLY, having my sorceress idly creep along looking at the walls, I was able to get to the last skeleton guardian, like you said, it's hard but the rewards are great, but I feel as if it may not have been absolutely necessary to finish the game as I already had the ringkey for level 24...

Sorry for the late response!  Here’s all my comments:

“I took your advice for level 22, I was quite thorough before and had opened all the sarcophagi and had opened the well as well, is that all I had to do with the well?”

Well, after you open the well you should try using the bucket to see if anything’s inside it.

“The only place that I haven't opened is in the Ebishom section which I can't figure out at all.”

Look inside the sarcophagi for the button to open it.

“There is also a door with a skull on level 23 that I have not been able to open, I've opened one of them but not the other...”

There are 2 random blue skull levers hidden inside alcoves.  One opens one door, the second opens the other door.  Level 23 was a great achievement.  It had a complete remodel from the boring original, which added the area names, the launchers, Skull Gates, and the different Guardians and their hearts which you needed to reach Level 24.

“I've also spent time in the alchemy section making potions using the troll claws and various other stuff that was littering the town from the previous lands...and discovered the bonus that I could sell those potions that I don't use, that was a great touch.”

Finally!!  Someone who gets it!  I literally had a playtester mock me because they thought you had to make all these potions to beat Level 18.  Wrong!!

“Also I haven't found the left and right eyes mentioned by the Blood Gem...”

Keep searching those areas you haven’t been to on Level 22; you’ll find it. (Edit: Sorry!  Oh, "those" eyes!  You'll find those on Level 24 once you reach the center.  Be sure to read the clue again so you know what to do!)

“Do I need to use any of the blue swords that I found in level 18, I think it was?”

Actually you do!  One is for Level 17 pedestals, and the Ebishom sword is for Level 24 in one of the shrines.

“I noticed also that the sarcophagi in the nifemi crypts are all closed...I played this section a few months ago and I remember that perhaps they were open and my clicking on them closed them as they can't be interacted with now but I can't be exactly sure about this.”

Have you tried walking to the end of the corridor?  They should open of their own accord…

“I tried going into level 24 with the Medallion and realized what happens, I'll just return that thing as soon as i finish levels22 and 23! It amazes me how many thing you've thought of including in this quest...and if you weren't around to help i would probably have quit after getting stuck in Ormar.”

Yes, you found out why you don’t take the Medallion to Level 24.  It also changes the text and flow of the end battle, if you take it all the way.  Its bad!!

“I've realized that there is a 'Crypt of Kings' (probably the one Nectarine found) and it seems to be between the ebishom and metarinth section in level 22 and a place close to the entry/exit area where I can see a skeleton standing that I haven't opened yet apart from the central place in the Ebishom section...also so many of the secret places in level 22 are just a small corridor with nothing there...is this how it's supposed to be?”

Those little secrets are places where the Royal Guardians spawn, which is also random so there is several of them.  The entrance to the Crypt of Kings is tied to the 3 blue sockets for the Bloodstones.  I would suggest making a new save before opening it, and going inside, because IIRC there’s no going back “once you start down that path”.

I'm sure about checking every sarcophagi that is there but as for the walls I guess I'll really have to recheck them as the switches are rather hard to see; in any Darkstone quest I have always disliked levels 21 and 22 because the walls have so many skulls that it's easy to miss switches and stuff, also the crypts feel too eerie...

Yeah, I really didn’t like the graphic for 21 and 22 either, which is why I went to great lengths to break it up some.  Like changing the main floor to a dark marble instead of that solid brick.  Did you notice that the areas behind the sarcophagi have no skulls?

I took your advice for level 22, I was quite thorough before and had opened all the sarcophagi and had opened the well as well, is that all I had to do with the well?, but I went through it again. The only place that I haven't opened is in the Ebishom section which I can't figure out at all and the 3 blue buttons which I'll follow your advice and look for more bloodstones. I had found the various ringkeys and have completed levels 18, 19, 20 and have placed everything that can be placed in level 17 though there are things missing still. I've even gone down to level 24 (before acquiring the Medallion) and there is a place there too that I can't access so I decided to come back and try to finish up all I can in the other levels in Ormar. There is also a door with a skull on level 23 that I have not been able to open, I've opened one of them but not the other... I've also spent time in the alchemy section making potions using the troll claws and various other stuff that was littering the town from the previous lands...and discovered the bonus that I could sell those potions that I don't use, that was a great touch. Also I haven't found the left and right eyes mentioned by the Blood Gem...I'm slowly going to look through level 22 and 23 again...do I need to use any of the blue swords that I found in level 18, I think it was?  I noticed also that the sarcophagi in the nifemi crypts are all closed...I played this section a few months ago and I remember that perhaps they were open and my clicking on them closed them as they can't be interacted with now but I can't be exactly sure about this.

I tried going into level 24 with the Medallion and realized what happens, I'll just return that thing as soon as i finish levels22 and 23! It amazes me how many thing you've thought of including in this quest...and if you weren't around to help i would probably have quit after getting stuck in Ormar.

I also went and digged up hints here:  http://www.it-taucher.at/forum/index.php?topic=11712.15

I've realized that there is a 'Crypt of Kings' (probably the one Nectarine found) and it seems to be between the ebishom and metarinth section in level 22 and a place close to the entry/exit area where I can see a skeleton standing that I haven't opened yet apart from the central place in the Ebishom section...also so many of the secret places in level 22 are just a small corridor with nothing there...is this how it's supposed to be?  I'm sure about checking every sarcophagi that is there but as for the walls I guess I'll really have to recheck them as the switches are rather hard to see; in any Darkstone quest I have always disliked levels 21 and 22 because the walls have so many skulls that it's easy to miss switches and stuff, also the crypts feel too eerie...
